IPL SHR Hair Removal Treatments
For the majority of people, intense pulsed light based hair removal treatment has long been accepted as a safe and effective treatment. However, like all treatments, certain contraindications need to be considered for your own safety.
Please talk to your aesthetician about your conditions before booking. If you are taking any medication or have an existing medical condition or concern not listed, please consult with your doctor first.

ABSOLUTE CONTRAINDICATIONS
Epilepsy [DANGER: May cause seizure]
Pregnant
HIV/AIDS
Skin cancer (on treatment area)
Undergoing chemotherapy or immune therapy
Immunodefficiency
Lupus
Diabetes (uncontrolled)
Active Herpes/cold sores (on treatment area)
Psoriasis or eczema (on treatment area)
Photosensitive medications
Retin A medications (wait 6 months after completion)
Roaccutane oral medications (wait 6 months after completion)
Sunburn
Chemical peels and laser resurfacing
Tattoos
Very dark skin (Fitzpatrick skin type 6)
Varicose veins
Vein inflammation
Liver or kidney disease
Haemophilia
Severe reactions to histamines
If you have any ABSOLUTE CONTRAINDICATIONS you cannot be treated.
PARTIAL CONTRAINDICATIONS
Breastfeeding
Keloid scarring
Depilatory creams (wait 2 weeks)
Areas being treated with Botox® (wait 3 months) or dermal fillers (wait 2 weeks)
Areas being treated with Radio Frequency or Laser (wait 2 weeks)
Suntan (sun must be avoided the entire duration of the treatment regime)
Hirsutism
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
High blood pressure (uncontrolled)
Open lesions (avoid area)
Infection (avoid area)
Antibiotics (wait until course completed)
Inflammation (avoid area)
Recent waxing/plucking (all IPL based hair removal treatments require there to be a follicle to target)
Moles (if you have a mole, you can still undergo IPL based hair removal as the beams used aren’t on the UV spectrum, however it is always important to keep an eye on any visual mole alterations that may occur (if you do see anything suspicious, make sure you inform your doctor of the treatment and have it checked as soon as possible)
If you have any PARTIAL CONTRAINDICATIONS you may or may not be suitable for treatment. Your aesthetician will advise the best course of action in a consultation.
